Sheet Lightning is a DOS program
that installs and runs through Windows 95/98/ME. This version of the program
is aged but still highly productive and in worldwide use. It does not operate
under Windows 2000 or Windows XP due to backwards compatability issues.
However a new, full Windows version of the program is under development
with an expected release date in Early 2002. The new version will be higher
priced but still within the shareware price bracket. Purchasers of the
current program (for 50$ US Dollas) will be extended an offer by RevCAD
Software to purchase the new program at a reduced rate (i.e. a reduction
in excess of 50$). If

Shareware capability
The shareware version of the software
is the full working program with some of its functionality disabled until
you type in your registration key code on program start-up. Without
the key code the unregistered program can still create and output
a wide range of commonly used designs and output unfolded patterns or 3D
models providing the complexity of your design does not include the following:
You can therefore use
the program to form any single or two piece cylinder, cone, rectangular,
rectangular adapter, square-to-round adapter, oval, oval-to-round/rectangle
adapter etc. Intersections can be formed between any two of these pieces
with or without centre line offsets. Note: the unregistered copy can still
be used to create the more complex designs internally, but the output of
these designs is restricted until you supply the key code.
The shareware download comes complete with a HTML user manual (214 pages).

Downloading Sheet Lightning
The download links on this page give immediate
access to the Sheet Lightning shareware program in ZIP file format (Download
Now - 4.0MB). You can also access the shareware program through some
of the shareware download sites on the internet. You will need WINZIP,
PKZIP or some other unzipping program installed on your computer to open
the ZIP file. Use the SETUP.EXE file to install Sheet Lightning in Windows.
This can be done directly from WINZIP. Once installed Sheet Lightning is
accessed through the options on your start menu. The computer requirements
are 386DX PC or better, 2MB Ram, 13MB of disk space and any Windows system.

Plotting & Printing
Sheet Lightning output can be obtained
directly via a plotter or printer. The plotter connection requires no extra
utility and can be via parallel or serial port connection. The printer
connection requires a shareware utility called PRINTGL (PRINTGL.ZIP).
This utility must be unzipped into the Sheet Lightning directory (usually
C:\Sheet). You must also unzip the file SH_PRINT.DEV into the same directory
to enable priner selection (SH_PRINT.ZIP). This
should enable you to partition and print any size of pattern to a supported
printer. The utility is developed by a third party developer and can be
obtained through may sources on the internet. Please remember a small registration
fee is required if you decide to keep it.
Interfacing to CAD
Sheet Lightning interfaces to virtually
any general CAD systems via DXF (data exchange format) files. Although
Sheet Lightning has its own plotting capability other CAD systems can be
used to manually maniplating the plotting data generated by Sheet Lightning.
Training
We have recently added an instruction
page describing the procedure for creating some specific designs. These
instructions have a new step-by-step format with accompanying files that
is proving effective. The designs so far published but we intend to expand
it considerably for the new program release.

The Sheet Lightning manual is available as a single PDF document: SLmanual.pdf. It is a little outdated but is accurate fofr all major features. Manual upates will now only be developed for the new version of the program.
History
Sheet Lightning has developed a world-wide
pedigree in the sheet metal fabrication industry in many countries throughout
the world since its first release in 1990. Over the ten year period from
1990-2000 it was sold as a high value and highly specialised program for
in
excess of $3000 US Dollars!.
For many companies that used the program it was their best kept secret, giving them a unique competitive edge. Although it is an aging product it still has the same unique design capability and is just as useful and powerful in its design capability today as ever.
RevCAD Software are now actively engaged in other high profile engineering software development in other engineering fields and therefore took the decision in May 2000 to release the software to the worldwide market under a token price shareware license agreement.
